For over a decade, in a competing global context with strong regulatory constraints, industry must face new strategic challenges:
- To accelerate the delivery of the products on the market.
- Develop secured and attractive products.
The control of the projects remains more than ever a need to ensure an operating margin and arrival on-time to the market.
International studies showed that:
- More than 30% of the projects are stopped before their end.
- More than 70% of the remaining projects did not fulfill the initial project brief.
- The average project exceeds 189% of the budget and 222% of the planning.
The root causes of these failures are first due to requirements management (40%), then to project management (15%) and data management (10%). In the same proportion, successful projects are the ones that managed these 3 elements.
Since beginning of 1990, industry has faced these problems and developed an approach to develop complex systems: Systems Engineering.
Some professional associations (INCOSE – International Council on Systems Engineering; in France, AFIS – Association Française d’Ingénierie Système) have been created with the goal to give feedback and to share best practices.
Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to derive, evolve, and verify a life-cycle balanced system solution which satisfies customer expectations and meets public acceptability.
Systems Engineering is concerned with:
Balance between requirements, performances, costs, delays and risks of the project
Optimum functional and physical solution regarding the needs
Ability for the system to operations and its support
Face to this stake, in complement to its validation and risks expertise, ADN strengthens its expertise in engineering complex systems to the benefits of its customers.
ADN is involved in INCOSE and AFIS societies, and uses experienced practices on methods and tools.
